AWCF - Initiatives (Education)

The American Wound Care Foundation (AmWCF) strives to provide patient, caregiver, and family the appropriate education. The AmWCF offers a channel for patient support & watchdog advocacy by educating opinion leaders.

  • Risk factors for ulcerations

  • How to prevent ulcers

  • Selecting a wound care center/physician

  • Importance when possible of controlling and/or treating underlying disease (i.e. diabetes, venous insufficiency, etc.)

  • Role of proper nutrition and wound care healing

  • Different modalities for treating wounds

  • Utilizing high tech and new methods of treatment

  • Management of ulcers in a long term care facility                                                   

  • Pain control, relief from itching and similar concerns

  • Emphasis on importance of compliance with treatments

  • Depression resulting from amputation and/or chronic illness
